Solar Panels

Solar Panels in Cheshire

Solar panels turn daylight into electricity you use at home, cutting what you buy from the grid. We design the system around your roof and your usage, check the roof first and fit it with the same team that looks after the roof itself.

Solar Panels across Cheshire

A good solar system starts with the roof: its direction, its pitch, any shade from trees or buildings, and its condition. South-facing roofs give the most generation, but east-west roofs work well too, spreading production across the day. We survey all of this, and look at your electricity use before we recommend the size of the array.

Because we are roofers as well as solar installers, we check the roof properly before anything goes on it. If it needs repairs or is near the end of its life, it is cheaper to deal with that first than to take panels off later. We can do the roof and the panels as one project, with one quote and one guarantee.

Is solar right for your home?

  • A roof with a reasonable area facing south, east or west and little shade
  • High electricity use, especially in the daytime or the evening
  • A roof in good condition, or one you plan to renew
  • Plans for an electric car or heat pump that will raise your usage
  • You want to cut your bills and your carbon, and plan to stay for years

How we design and fit a system

We survey the roof and the loft, look at the electrics and your meter, and design a layout with panels, inverter and any battery matched to your usage. You get the equipment, the layout, the price and the timescale in writing. We deal with the notification to your network operator.

Installation is by our team: scaffold or roof access, mounting rails and panels fixed to the roof structure without compromising the covering, cabling, inverter, isolators and testing. We commission the system, show you how to read it and leave the paperwork with you.

We explain how to read your system, send the paperwork and give you your written guarantee.

What size and type of system?

System size depends on roof area, usage and budget, not on the biggest array we can fit. We design for how you use power, and say so if a smaller system is the better fit. A battery lets you use more of what you generate in the evening: see solar battery storage. If you would rather have panels flush with the roof, see in-roof solar.

If you want to be paid for surplus power you export under the Smart Export Guarantee, the system normally needs to be installed by an MCS-certified installer and you need a suitable meter. Always check an installer’s certification before you sign, and ask what your quote covers.

What affects the cost?

The cost of a solar installation depends on the size of the system, the panels and inverter chosen, whether you add a battery, the roof type and height, scaffold, and any electrical upgrades needed. We give you a fixed price in writing after a survey, with the equipment and warranties listed.

Solar Panels: your questions answered

Do I need a new roof before I get solar panels?

Not always. If your roof is sound we can fit panels as it is. If it is near the end of its life, it is cheaper to re-roof first. We tell you which applies after the survey.

Do I need planning permission for solar panels?

On most houses, panels are permitted development, but listed buildings and some properties in conservation areas have extra rules. We check before we quote.

How long does installation take?

Most homes take one to two days on the roof, plus the electrical work and testing. We give you a programme with the quote.

How long do solar panels last?

Panels are typically warrantied for many years, often 10 to 25 depending on the product, and commonly keep working for longer. The inverter usually needs replacing sooner. We list the warranties in your quote.
