Gutters and Downpipes

Gutters and Downpipes in Cheshire

Gutters carry rainwater away from the walls and foundations. When they leak, overflow or sag, water gets into brickwork and the roof edge. We fit, repair and clear guttering so it works properly in heavy rain.

Gutters and Downpipes across Cheshire

Blocked, leaking or badly aligned gutters are a common cause of damp walls, stained brickwork, rotten fascias and even penetrating damp inside the house. Leaves, moss, silt and shingle build up, joints fail and brackets loosen.

We clear and flush gutters, realign and refix sagging runs, replace failed joints and sections, and fit complete new systems in uPVC, aluminium and cast. We size the system to the roof area and fit enough downpipes so heavy rain does not overflow.

Signs your gutters need attention

  • Water overflowing at the edge, or pouring down the wall in rain
  • Drips from joints, or green and black staining below the gutter
  • Sagging runs, loose brackets or gutters that are not level
  • Plants or moss growing out of the gutter
  • Damp patches on walls under the eaves

How we deal with gutters

We clear debris and check the falls, then repair, realign or replace sections as needed. New systems are fitted on well-spaced brackets at the right fall, with outlets and downpipes placed so water drains quickly to the drains or soakaway.

Where the fascia behind is rotten we advise on replacing it at the same time. We also fit gutter guards or leaf guards where trees are close and a regular clear-out would otherwise be needed.

Which gutter material suits me?

uPVC is low-cost, light and widely used. Aluminium is strong, slim and long-lasting and suits modern and period homes. Cast iron and cast aluminium give a traditional look on period properties. We help you choose, including in conservation areas, where the original style is often expected.

What affects the cost?

A simple clear-out is a small job, while a complete new system depends on the length of run, the material, the number of downpipes and the scaffold. We quote a fixed price after a survey.

Gutters and Downpipes: your questions answered

How often should gutters be cleaned?

At least once a year, and more often if trees overhang the roof. Blocked gutters are a common cause of overflow and damp.

Can you repair a leaking joint?

Often. If the gutter is otherwise sound we re-seal or replace the joint. If the run is old or sagging, replacing it is more reliable.

Do I need new fascias too?

Sometimes. If the board behind is rotten the new gutter will not hold. We check and tell you. See fascias and soffits.

Can you fit gutters around solar panels?

Yes, and panels need to be planned so water still reaches the gutter. See solar panels.
